 We’re kicking off our program with an exclusive trip to Berlin and its MedTech start-up ecosystem. You’ll meet successful founders who have raised eight-figure investments for their companies in the field of AI in medicine and join in interesting conversations about their technology, research and business. In Berlin, you’ll also meet this year’s participants for the first time and enjoy a great opportunity to connect, exchange ideas, and start the program together in an inspiring atmosphere. Accommodation and the train ticket from Aachen to Berlin will be provided free of charge.

What is
AIM Connect?

Concept

Throughout the semester, participants engage in weekly activities, including expert sessions, lab visits and hands-on workshops with leading role models in research and industry. In addition to these core events, we organize social gatherings and networking opportunities, allowing students to discuss insights from sessions, exchange ideas and build lasting connections.

Who we search

In our application process, we are looking for 20 students with diverse academic backgrounds, who want to gain insights into the latest development in the intersection of health and technology and who want to build up a strong network.

Time Commitment

The program includes mandatory sessions which are held once a week. As the programm is tailored to the semester spans in Aachen, it lasts 8-10 weeks. Each session is expected to last between 2 and 4 hours.

  • Kick-Off Weekend (24 - 26 April 2026)

    Immersive introduction to Berlin's MedTech start-up ecosystem, connecting with your peers in the AIM connect Aachen cohort.

  • Week 1

    Lab Visit – AI & MRI Imaging: Experience cutting-edge developments in AI-powered MRI image analysis firsthand.

  • Week 2

    Multinational MedTech Company Visit: Explore the headquarters of one of Europe’s largest MedTech corporations and learn how start-ups scale into global enterprises.

  • Week 3

    Artificial Heart Pump (Part 1) – Clinician Visit: Discover how artificial heart pumps are used in life-saving treatments.

  • Week 4

    Artificial Heart Pump (Part 2) – OR Visit: Join the OR room and observe the implantation into the patient in-person!

  • Week 5

    Medical Robotics (Part 1) – Expert Session: Meet one of the world’s leading medical robotics experts and learn about the latest innovations in robotic surgery.

  • Week 6

    Medical Robotics (Part 2) – Workshop: Get hands-on experience controlling surgical robots in a practical workshop.

  • Week 7

    Expert Session – AI in Medicine: Meet a world-renowned clinical scientist (Forbes 30 Under 30) and explore their latest research in medical AI.

Who can apply to AIM Connect?

AIM Innovate is open to students from all disciplines who have a profound interest in MedTech and innovation in healthcare. Whether you’re studying medicine, engineering, business, or law, we welcome your unique perspective.

Do I need any prior experience in coding or medical technology to join?

No prior experience is necessary! Our program is designed to accommodate students at various skill levels, offering foundational knowledge and building up to more advanced concepts in MedTech.

Will I receive a certificate upon completing the program?

Absolutely! Upon completing the program, you’ll receive a certificate to acknowledge your participation and achievements.

How does the application process work?

Our application portal opens in January 2026. Applicants are required to submit their CV and answer a few short questions by February 6, 2026. We review applications and select candidates for short interviews, which are scheduled towards the middle of February. These interviews will be conducted virtually.  Candidates will receive feedback in early March.

What kind of projects will I work on in the program?

You’ll engage in various hands-on projects that explore different aspects of MedTech, from innovation in healthcare solutions to the impact of technology on patient care. These projects are collaborative, allowing you to work alongside peers from different disciplines.

At what stage of my studies do I need to be in order to participate?

Any student enrolled in a bachelor’s degree programme, master’s degree programme or state examination programme is welcome to apply.

What language is used in the AIM Connect program, and what level of English proficiency is expected from applicants?

It is important to note that English is the primary language of instruction and communication. Applicants should possess good English skills, as this will be essential for participating in the diverse range of activities, including visits to labs, startups, and other organizations. Even though the startups are based in Germany, we make a concerted effort to conduct our program in English to maintain inclusivity and accessibility for all participants.

Can participants choose their project topics, or are they assigned?

The group will define the project topics, allowing participants to choose based on their interests, expertise, and the goals they aim to achieve through the project. This approach encourages collaboration and ensures that the projects are engaging and meaningful to all members involved.

How can participants contribute to the OneAIM community after completing the program?

Participants can contribute to the OneAIM community post-program by serving as alumni mentors, sharing expertise through workshops, participating in networking events, and engaging in collaborative projects. Their involvement enriches the community, fosters continuous learning, and strengthens professional networks, thereby supporting the development of future members.

What is a Makeathon?

At a makeathon, small teams develop creative digital solutions (e.g., in the form of an app or web application), concepts or hardware models within a short period of time (hours or a few days) based on predefined questions (“Challenges”).

Are there separate application processes for AIM Connect Aachen and AIM Connect Munich?

Since AIM Connect Aachen and AIM Connect Munich are separate programs, the applications processes are also conducted separately.

Can I participate in the AIM Connect program online?

As the majority of our activities takes place in person, it is not possible to participate in the program online.
